  3. generation were in journalism or they went into 
  4. film-making, or they joined communes, or they 
  5. took drugs and they blew out their brains on acid, 
  6. as I have written and so on. What we have now at 
  7. the top, and I‚Äôm saying everywhere, it‚Äôs why we 
  8. have these vacuums in the major magazines, why 
  9. we have British editors of so many magazines in 
  10. America, because the generation, which is mine, 
  11. that should have took over, the one that was most 
  12. revolutionized by McLuhan‚Äôs thought, simply opted 
  13. out. We thought we could change things from the 
  14. outside, but we could not.
